Torbridge Vet Group can trace its roots back over 100 years to the original partnership of Askett and Irwin based in Buttgarden Street. The cobbled yard and stables reflected the emphasis on farm animals and working horses at the time.
In 1996 we moved to Caddsdown Industrial Park, followed by an expansion of the practice through mergers/acquisition of Acorn Veterinary Practice in Torrington and Horsepond Veterinary Practice in South Molton 2001 and 2008.
Over the years our core values have remained unchanged. We aim to always provide the highest possible standards of treatment and care for your animals, using the best people, equipment and expertise.
Our expertise
Veterinary surgeons at Torbridge are actively encouraged to pursue their special interests. We have vets with post graduate certification in surgery, medicine, ophthalmology and feline medicine. Other qualifications pending included certificates in cardiology, dermatology and emergency and critical care. This expertise is backed up with an extensive armoury of equipment including ultrasound scanners, digital radiography including a dedicated digital dental radiography unit, endoscopy and a wide range of orthopaedic and soft tissue surgical equipment including laparoscopy (keyhole) surgery.
This combination of expertise and equipment enables us to deal with most cases coming through the door, be it a complex fracture, a cardiac emergency or medical crisis. We also have access to internationally recognised specialists in all disciplines that we can refer you on to should your pet’s condition require such specialised treatment.
Our veterinarians are supported by a team of dedicated nurses and receptionists many of whom have embarked on further training in their own areas of expertise.
We provide overnight care for our inpatients during the week with 24 hour nursing care and an on call veterinary surgeon, so that they do not have to be moved between practices unless their condition requires intensive monitoring or surgical intervention.
Veterinary nurse training
We are a Royal College approved veterinary nurse training practice. Our nurses achieve exceptional exam results and continue to gain additional qualifications after their nursing training.
We have nurses with keen interests and certificates in areas such as feline behaviour and canine rehabilitation. Nurses not only assist the veterinary surgeons in the treatments of your pets, but hold their own clinics advising on such areas as nutrition, puppy and kitten care, senior pet care, dental care and much more.
Torbridge Vets was acquired by CVS (UK) Limited in September 2015 and now operates as part of a larger group of veterinary practices and veterinary service providers.
We operate a no compromise policy on our service standards. We always try to accommodate our clients’ veterinary needs whether it’s an emergency, routine call or our freely available telephone advice.
