We then offered laser therapy as a treatment option for Mylo. Laser therapy is a non-invasive treatment to help reduce pain and to reduce inflammation. This is a treatment used for animals with arthritis, wounds, and fractures and helps to improve animal’s quality of life.
Mylo had laser therapy at three different sites- his elbows, hips and stifles as these areas were particularly arthritic and causing him a problem. Each area has a specified time to be treated depending on the tissue depth/ size of the animal, even hair colour changes the settings.
Mylo has been a star patient to have the laser therapy applied. He is very comfortable when he comes into the nurse’s room and will settle down to have the laser without any problems. At one treatment he even fell asleep, just proving how relaxed he was. The owners have noticed a great difference in how well Mylo is able to move and have also mentioned that he hasn’t been as comfortable as he is now in a couple of years!
Mylo is a great advocate for how laser has helped improve his quality of life and the owners are even considering reducing his pain relief medication as he is doing so well. He has been the training buddy for many of our nurses as they learn this new skill. He has been so pateint and such a good boy for us! Well done Mylo!
